Tryout Information

While camps and clinics offer valuable experiences, the true advantage lies in the opportunity for year-round training and coaching alongside a close-knit team that becomes like family. What distinguishes Apex is our consistent success in providing every senior athlete with the chance to pursue collegiate play each year. We take pride in our Apex Alumni who have excelled in esteemed programs such as the Junior National team, NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and Junior college, thanks to our extensive network that facilitates connections to higher levels of competition.

Apex will conduct tryouts for each age group, aiming to form 2-5 teams per group, comprising 10-12 players each. The initial tryouts are:

We advise attendees to arrive prepared and informed, having researched Apex beforehand to ensure compatibility with our club. Our aim is to leave the gym with fully assembled teams, composed of dedicated athletes eager to join Apex, alongside families enthusiastic about our collegiate-level coaching and exceptional training programs.

To assist athletes in readiness for tryouts, Apex will host tailored trainings and open gyms focusing on club tryout drills, techniques, and procedures throughout August. These sessions will also feature additional evaluations, providing participants with opportunities to build confidence and gain a competitive edge. For further details, please consult our Apex Essentials: Camps, Clinics & More page. We eagerly anticipate your participation in the tryouts!

The registration fee for all tryouts is $40. This cost must be paid in advance for *Early Bird Pricing.* The tryout cost includes an Apex T-shirt.

USA Volleyball requires that each athlete register within their region - our region's governing body is the Southern California  Volleyball Association, or SCVA.  After tryouts you must register on the and pay a registration fee that will be a full-year USAV membership once your athlete is placed on a team.  Registration on the SCVA/USAV website will be available to pre-purchase on 8/3/2024. The region asks that parents and families be patient with this process. Should you have any questions in regards to this requirement, please contact us.

Understanding USA Volleyball's age definition is simpler than it may seem. To try out and play for a particular age team, your athlete must still be that age at the end of the season, which is defined as June 30, 2025. There are exceptions for 17- and 18-year-old athletes in certain situations related to playing with their grade. For instance, if your athlete's birthday falls in December 2010, she is 13 years old during tryouts but will turn 14 during the season and will still be 14 at the end of the season on June 30, 2025. Therefore, she will try out as a 14-year-old. With the club's permission, it's always "legal" to play for an older age team, but not for a younger team. Your athlete's correct age eligibility will always be displayed on our website next to their name in your parent profile at the conclusion of the current season. For more detailed information, including specific exceptions for boys and college-bound athletes, please refer to the "2024-2025 USAV Age Definitions" document listed in the sidebar of this page.
